THIS WILL ALSO AFFECT CIVIC CENTRE ROOM HIRE AND SERVICES OFFERED ELSEWHERE ON OUR WEBSITE
Please note that Whitchurch Civic Centre is temporarily closed whilst investigative and repair works take place in relation to the potential of RAAC within it’s structure. This is on the expert advice of Structural Engineers and our Corporate Landlord, Shropshire Council – the safety of the Public, our Patrons and Staff is paramount.
The Sports / Market Hall remains operational and other facilities may open with appropriate safety measures in place – the Centre’s Main Hall will remain closed for some time and, as an interim measure. Sadly this also means that events planned for the Main Hall are currently cancelled or re-arranged, please contact the organisers for further information. Some events held elsewhere within the building have been relocated to our Sports / Market Hall for the time being.
Please keep an eye on our social media (@wtcwhitchurch) for updates. In the meantime, all other activity remains unaffected.
Thank you for your understanding.
PLEASE REFER TO OUR MEETING SCHEDULE FOR IMPORTANT UPDATES ON COUNCIL MEETINGS.

Please note that, following this Press Release, the decision was made to reduce the weekly Friday Market to the front of the Civic Centre only (Fruit/Veg and Fish) – again, other elements may be reintroduced, based on expert opinion, when safe to do so.
UPDATE (14th September 2023):
Please note that, due to the closure of Whitchurch Library until further notice, we will not be able to operate a temporary Reception Hub from this facility, which was the original plan. We are working on an alternative solution and hope to be able to provide an update shortly. In the meantime, with the exception of essential Facilities staff, our team will work remotely but respond to telephone messages and email.

UPDATE (16th September 2023): LIMITED RECEPTION HUB FROM MONDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER
We are delighted to tell you that Reception facilities have now been established, on a temporary basis, in our Sports Hall. From Monday 18th September, our Hub staff will be manning phone lines and email during our ‘normal’ opening hours: Monday to Friday 9am-3pm and on Saturday 10am-1pm. Unfortunately we will not be open to personal callers for the time being for safety reasons, and to avoid unnecessary disruption to those holding events in the Sports Hall throughout the week. However, you will be able to collect or drop off items at the Sports Hall by arrangement, but please call ahead.
UPDATE (20th September 2023): INDOOR MARKET AND OTHER ACTIVITY
The Indoor Market will return to the Market Hall on Friday 22nd September and we are grateful to the majority of Market Traders for working with us to help make this happen. Fruit & Veg and Fresh Fish will still be available at the front of the Civic Centre. Please note that there is no direct route from the front of the Civic Centre to the Market Hall. Please use the independent entrance to the Market Hall on St Mary’s Street – and support those traders who are support the town and its Market!
There will be a Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care on Friday 29th September in the Market Hall and another on 13th October in aid of Zest For Life – these two Coffee Mornings were booked in before our unexpected closure and no further bookings for Coffee Mornings will be accepted at this point. The Cafe will continue to be operational at the Indoor Market outside of these dates.
There is also a surgery with Shropshire Councillor for Whitchurch North, Peggy Mullock on Friday 29th September in the Market Hall. This is an opportunity to speak directly to your Shropshire Council elected representative – and on this occasion she will be joined by Whitchurch Mayor, Councillor Andy Hall.
UPDATE (26th October 2023): TEMPORARY RECEPTION HUB ARRANGEMENTS
With investigative works continuing longer than we would have wished, it is now no longer possible to maintain the temporary Reception Hub in the Sports / Market Hall as originally intended. We anticipate more news in the next week or so, which will inform arrangements going forward.
All email and phone messages will be responded to remotely in the meantime, which should not impact on how you contact us too much, but we apologise for the inconvenience it undoubtedly causes all of us.

to our staff team, who continue to provide our services under these challenging conditions – it is appreciated.
UPDATE (14th November 2023): CONTINUED CLOSURE OF CIVIC CENTRE COMPLEX
Unfortunately, structural surveys indicate that the Civic Centre must remain closed at the moment, which an Options Appraisal is created and considered by Shropshire Council Cabinet. It is anticipated that a decision will be reached in January 2024.
We will endeavour to keep you informed.
In the meantime, our Reception and Administrative functions will operate from a temporary location, so that other services continue to be delivered.
Unfortunately, only email and telephone contact is possible – our temporary arrangements do not offer the opportunity of face-to-face services.
Thank you once again for your support and understanding – it is appreciated by all concerned!
